Mexico City Guide

In October, Tanya surprised me one Tuesday evening with a trip to my favorite city, Mexico City. The next day we were on an early flight for a 4 day trip to the beautiful capital of Mexico. Here is a look at our daily itinerary.

Day 1

Upon arrival in Mexico City —or as the locals call it CDMX— we checked into our trendy downtown loft located close to all the major attractions in “El Centro”. We then walked downtown and enjoyed some local street food and street tacos. Our first evening was filled with sites like Palacio De Bellas Artes, walking down the Avenida Cinco de Mayo, and seeing the street performers. We even enjoyed an amazing local coffee shop called Cielito querido cafe.

Day 2

Roma

The next day we began our morning with a walking tour through a very hipster area of Mexico City called Roma. We started our day at Dosis Cafe —a local coffee roaster— and enjoyed cappuccinos and lattes. We then enjoyed a traditional breakfast as bisquets De Obregon. The chilaquiles and molletes were delicious.

After eating a huge breakfast, we walked to a few local shops and enjoyed the beautiful streets of Roma. Roma is known for its street art and local artisanal shops. The streets are lined with big trees and mansions.

Condesa

After walking the streets of Roma we began our walk to neighboring Condesa. ON our way we stopped at Mercado Roma. Mercado Roma is a local food court full of restaurants and shops. You can eat anything from Tacos to Steaks all within the “Mercado” or market.

Upon Arriving in Condesa we explored the gorgeous Parque de mexico and ate spicy fruit from a local street cart. we then made our way to the most famous churro shop in Mexico City called churreria el moro. this local favorite has been opened since 1935.

after a long day walking through roma and condesa we went back to our loft to rest before an evening at the theater. Mexico City is the hub for theater and film in Latin America. we enjoyed watching benny ibarra star in” novecento”. dustin may or may not have fallen asleep during the show.

Day 3

Coyoacan

after a jammed pack day 2 we made our way to Coyoacán—this was our favorite day!. we took a long uber ride to cafe negro and enjoyed coffee and PASTRIES to start off the day. we then walked to mercado de coyoacan. This mercado was the cleanest mercado we have ever been to in mexico. after filling up on way to many QUESADILLAS, street corn and ice cream, we walked to the home of frida kahlo. frida is one of the most famous mexicans from the 20th century, and her home— now a museum— is DEFINITELY worth a visit.

Polanco

later that evening we got ready for my birthday dinner. Tanya had made a reservation at pujol (from nexflix’s chef table” and the number 13 best RESTAURANT in the world). This was a experience that i will never forget as it had been on my bucket list for years.

Day 4

our final day we ate a very traditional breakfast at cafe tacuba in “el centro”. after stuffing our faces with pan dulce and drinking too much cafe con leche, we took an hour long uber south to the iconic xochimilco. this is basically like mexico’s version of venice. we floated on the CANALS and enjoyed snacks, MARIACHI bands, and street vendors. there was even a floating street corn boat. later that evening we were craving one final meal of tacos. after watching taco chronicles on netflix, we knew the place we had to visit, el vilsito. these were hands down the best tacos we had ever eaten before. we even ran into the famous taco youtuber “la ruta de la garnacha” and i had to take a selfie.

after eating tacos we made it back to el centro. i knew i wanted to take tanya on a date so i found a roof top bar called “nivel 40” on top of the iconic torre latinoamericana building. we enjoyed a cocktail and the breathtaking view from the top and called it a night before our early morning flight.

Mexico City was such a fun trip and we would recommend taking a long weekend or even spending a week exploring the city. this city is full of culture, amazing food and world renown museums. the flight was not expensive and the prices (especially using usd) are very cost effective. we encourage you to take your next trip to mexico’s BEAUTIFUL capital.
